Projection Mapping

Our idea started with the frame-by-frame animation we had learned in class, where a character walks across the screen. We thought it would be really cute if the same character could keep walking into different worlds created by each of us. One of our group members made a worm GIF, and it became the little traveler connecting our scenes.

For my world, I chose a Halloween theme since Halloween was coming up. I used purple and orange tones, pumpkins, a crescent moon, and a black cat. To bring the scene to life, I added twinkling stars, a ghost that floats across the sky, and small animations for the cat’s tail and eyes. We each gave our world a different style while leaving space at the bottom for the worm to travel through.

After creating our individual scenes, we brought them together using p5.mapper and worked on aligning the projections with the physical surfaces. This took longer than we expected. Sometimes we got stuck on seemingly random little problems, and figuring out what was wrong took much longer than actually fixing it. But after testing and adjusting everything together, we managed to get the projections working well. It was satisfying to see our separate worlds come together, with the worm moving from one to another.
